The most dangerous kind of villains are those who appear spotless on the surface, those who exude charisma that hides their evil deeds. The Iron Heart gives us an example through the character of Bro. Joseph played by JM de Guzman.
The way he preaches about holiness and salvation even though he’s a rotten soul will send shivers down your spine. Re-watch his loathsome ‘kontrabida’ scenes via this Kapamilya Toplist from the trending action-drama series.
Bro. Joseph runs a sect called Yusebia that claims to honor God and is devoted to the strict interpretation of their law. He teaches simplicity and helping the poor. However, behind the scenes, he worships money. He keeps a collection of gold bars, jewels, and large amounts of money in his office. The love offerings for their church and community go straight to Brother Joseph’s pockets.
They invite members in their fake pursuit of holiness, and their recent recruit happens to be Apollo (Richard Gutierrez)’s uncle, Hector (Roi Vinzon).
Doubtful of Yusebia’s motive, Apollo started to investigate the sect by feigning interest in their mission. His suspicion grew further when he saw that Bro. Joseph’s ring was similar to what he recovered from the crime scene where Juno (Meryll Soriano)’s body fell from the building.
Bro. Joseph handed Apollo the sect’s book of laws and introduced him to one of their helpers, the happy-go-lucky Hercules (Igi Boy Flores), whom he described as a work in progress. They also introduced the character of Cora (Ruby Ruiz), the old lady who’s had enough of the organization’s hypocrisy. But her plans to escape reached Bro Joseph, who forced her to confess her sins and then strangled her to death.
In the succeeding days, Apollo would notice Cora’s sudden disappearance. He was told by Hera (Anna Luna), Bro. Joseph’s wife, that Cora was sent to Ethiopia for missionary work. However, Apollo remained suspicious. Through the help of Hercules, he was able to recover Cora’s remains buried in the backyard of Yusebia’s chapel. When the cops arrived to investigate, Bro. Joseph put on his mask while Hera pretended to grieve Cora’s death.
They know Apollo is a threat, thus Bro. Joseph ordered his henchmen to silence him. However, Apollo managed to escape. Now aware of Apollo’s capabilities and strength, Bro. Joseph’s strategy is to keep him close and treat his enemy with friendly warmth, not because the Most High says, but because he has evil things up his sleeve.
